If you are not in an area experiencing a fire but are receiving a lot of ashfall as a result of a nearby fire, we have some advice for you. Even if not, this is important information to have. If you go outside during the ashfall, please find something to cover your mouth, nose, and even may want to protect your eyes depending on the severity. In the case of covering your eyes and mouth, something like a bandanna will be relatively effective enough if something like a mask cannot be found. Ashfall can cause respiratory problems. Always follow your local guidelines as they will be more in-depth than what can be achieved by this post. Another important thing you should do (if possible as some areas are also experiencing high heat), turn off any AC or HVAC to prevent outside ash from making it into your AC and home. The ash can damage components inside of the AC. If you have a window unit, try your best to cover it with a sheet or something similar. This will further prevent outside air with ash coming into your home.

If you think you are about to experience a fire or are currently experiencing a nearby fire, don’t wait… Evacuate! Possessions can be replaced. New memories can be made. However, you cannot be replaced as you are truly unique and the world will be less beautiful without you. If you have a numerous quantity of animals such as a farm setting, it is highly recommended to leave openings in the fences so that the animals may be free to escape the fire if you cannot evacuate them.
